Rishloo, a New Discovery

courtesy of www.myspace.com/rishlooband It’s starts off quiet. Sure, it sounds like it might be a slow song, but suddenly it heads somewhere else. Freaks and Animals, a song by Washington based band, Rishloo, begins with a spacey guitar line but segues into an alternative rock head-banger. What is a Rishloo? I’m not quite sure, but one thing is for certain: they are successfully writing original music. Already they have two albums available: Eidolon (2007) and Terras Fames (2004). I’m not entirely sure what either of their album titles mean either.

Regardless, I enjoy Freaks and Animals the best, the first song on their MySpace Page. Though, that’s only if I’m in an alternative rock mood. If I’m feeling like chilling out a bit more, Pandora is amazing; I’m not talking about the streaming radio site, thought that is just as exciting. The features a distinct guitar line and drum part, embellished with pleasing vocal harmony; it’s available on their MySpace page as well.

Overall, Rishloo features some modern interpretations of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and David Bowie. They’re pleasant to listen to and definitely your attention. If you don’t appreciate their music, at least appreciate their ingenuity. They’re music is not cliché. Decoy Music Magazine even went as far to say, “Rishloo has to be commended for making the music they want to make… you may be looking at the saviours of intelligent rock music.”
