Rishloo, a New Discovery

It’s starts off quiet. Sure, it sounds like it might be a slow song, but suddenly it heads somewhere else. Freaks and Animals, a song by Washington based band, Rishloo, begins with a spacey guitar line but segues into an alternative rock head-banger. What is a Rishloo? I’m not quite sure, but one thing is for certain: they are successfully writing original music. Already they have two albums available: Eidolon (2007) and Terras Fames (2004). I’m not entirely sure what either of their album titles mean either.

Rhapsody of Fire, a Must Listen

There’s something spectacularly epic about European progressive metal featuring the harmonic structure of a classical requiem, the same type that Gabriel Fauré composed in the 19th century. About 3 minutes in Triumph or Agony, Italian metal band, Rhapsody of Fire, breaks into a multi-voice solo shouting “Lux Aeterna.” Only option here: turn up the volume and bask in its awesomeness.
